Some vampire fight training happening in the background.

Does the author have a pet peeve about training scenes with real swords in comics/movies? I don't see what would make you think that.

I taught people how to fence for a few years, and one of the hardest thing for them to learn was fully committing to an attack and actually trying to hit their opponent. Never letting them hit you just reinforces the bad habit.

Soap boxing over, up next: montage!

Missed my goal of weekly updated by a few days this week, going to redouble my efforts for the next one.

re Skittsue: Mina gives the most thoughtful gifts!

re Imola: Swashbuckling all of those plotlines!

re pfmoi: It is going to be a very fun plot device to play with.

re re man in black: Get ready to be super sore Joan. Footwork is the worst!

re Onasaki: *humming eye of the tiger*

re StellaFrost: Drake might not be the best teacher for those types of lessons.

re doom Bubbles: glad you picked up on it!

re Arrikanez: the world is a dangerous place after all.

re Eva Emaria: Mina moves in mysterious ways

I did Dagorhir in college, and I am WITH you on the stupidity of training with a real sword. I don't do it anymore, but fully committing to that attack is a scary thing to learn, but once you get it, it never goes away, I think.

At least they aren't starting with real swords, I imagine it would be quite bloody

Drake's body seems kind of narrow on this page.
Also, it just occurred to me how much your hands have improved over time.

And that was an interesting tidbit about fencing! :)

Whew. I was concerned about that. There's a reason that practice swords exist. Yay for accuracy and common sense!

I do hope that this sword won't have an actual use, but things have never gone as planned.

I do stage choreography, but even we start with bokens at half-speed, working up to full speed, before switching to steel (not LIVE steel, but injuries can still happen and swords break so still dangerous) and going back down to half speed and working back up. It takes six months, minimum, to do safely, and we are INSANE about making sure everything is safe for actor/fighter, the rest of the cast, and audience. Even with the kooky weapons (We had a chain versus battle ax fight once). Your soapbox is my soapbox!

Also, I loved the background vampire sparring. Especially the one turning into bats. Why do I imagine his partner is yelling at him about cheating...?

Oh man I'm like 3 chapters behind. gotta get to reading this again

doom Bubbles, September 16th, 2017, 4:45 am

Ah, the old 'turn into a shitload of bats' defense, a wise and prudent maneuver!
